Shop Launch, Upcoming Markets & Art Thoughts
Ever since launching the shop (which has now been a little over 2 weeks), I’ve been feeling a little lost? I confess I have no idea what I’m doing but I’m doing “something” to keep the momentum going. They say if you wait until you’re ready, you’re never going to start. No one ever truly feels ready, right?

2024 Art Goals & Yuko Higuchi Exhibition
One of the cities I visited was Taipei in Taiwan. I was in awe of the colourful art exhibits installed in the city because of the Lunar New Year, and also other works of art scattered around in shopping malls, convenience stores, on products, tickets etc. Taiwan reminded me a lot of Japan and I can see how art is integral to Taiwanese culture. We visited a few art and souvenir stores and saw a lot of fun and cute art from various independent artists! I left feeling so inspired and excited to create!!

Why I love Pinterest, Switching Mediums & Art Style
Before I found an art style I resonated with and enjoyed, I spent hours scrolling Instagram. I would try to emulate this artist or the other, but I found myself playing the comparison game instead. Distracted by follower and like counts, I thought a specific art style or art theme was preferable or even invaluable compared to others…

The Blank Page & Creativity
For a long time, the blank paper /canvas, no matter the size, would taunt me with doubts of “what if, what I draw is unworthy of being there? What if, what I draw is not good enough? Because it would be embarrassing right? Or it will simply reveal how unskilled of an artist I am.”

Chasing Perfectionism, A Learning Curve in Art
I definitely learned a lot from doing a piece more than once (this isn’t the only piece I’ve re-painted). Things in life don’t always work out the first time, and it’s very okay to try things repeatedly until satisfied. And sometimes things just aren’t meant to be, and you don’t need permission to stop (especially if it’s something that makes you uncomfortable or doesn’t align with you). The most important lesson of it all is that you’ve tried. Don’t forget to give yourself a lot of compassion and grace. We’re all learning at our own pace.

I Always Come Back To Art
I wish I could say that I started drawing when I was two years old. Then showcase the collection of proof that my Mom kept safely in a lovely little box stashed away in the attic, one day to see the light of day to reminisce my origins as an artist. But I didn’t. I wasn’t always “artsy”.
