2024 Art Goals & Yuko Higuchi Exhibition

Hello hello, it has been a while but I’m back after some holidaying and art-making!

I had a great time travelling with family during February, and March has all been about getting back into drawing and of course back to grown-up boring tasks, which I will spare you the details of…Anyways let’s get into today’s blog, shall we?

Travelling & Sightseeing in Taipei

One of the cities I visited was Taipei in Taiwan. I was in awe of the colourful art exhibits installed in the city because of the Lunar New Year, and also other works of art scattered around in shopping malls, convenience stores, on products, tickets etc. Taiwan reminded me a lot of Japan and I can see how art is integral to Taiwanese culture. We visited a few art and souvenir stores and saw a lot of fun and cute art from various independent artists! I left feeling so inspired and excited to create!!

The biggest surprise of this trip was the pop-up art exhibition by Yuko Higuchi!! The moment I saw the gigantic poster (as pictured above), I stopped in my tracks and secretly hoped my family would want to see the exhibit and they did!! Yassss :D

The exhibit was quite big and there was so much to see. Taking photos of individual work or prints and videos were prohibited so I didn’t capture much digitally but I did with my eyes! Almost all of the art was done traditionally and all of the displays were originals, including studies, drafts, and cut-out sketches! From beginning to end, I was internally screaming with excitement, but I was stoked that my family (not usually into art) also enjoyed the exhibit. They stayed longer than me to look at each drawing/painting. Art is awesome in the way that any person of any age group can enjoy the same piece of painting or art throughout time.

Higuchi’s art features exquisite line art and detailing with cross-hatching, enhanced with colour. Her art has a fairy tale - Brother’s Grimm vibe- that is also cheeky and mischievous. I love it! Each character is full of personality and has a story to tell!

BIG Exciting Goals for 2024

I’m super excited to be planning on opening my art print shop, hopefully happening circa May!! There are a lot of things to prepare and it can be overwhelming sometimes but I’m happy to be making progress at least. More news on this later hopefully very soon!

I’ve been getting more and more comfortable and confident in my current art style and decided to re-do an older piece I painted using acrylic gouache. So here it is for your eyes to enjoy. If you didn’t enjoy it, then…just walk away hahaha ;)

That’s all from me, have a nice day or night wherever you are :)
